It was a real pleasure to share thoughts on building the bank of tomorrow — and I’m grateful for the many kind and thoughtful reactions afterward.

It was great to be back at the Banking50 conference in Amsterdam last week and exchange with such excellent panelists. Thanks a lot Morten Kriek and Elena Kriek for the invitation.
We had a lively discussion about challengers reshaping the financial landscape in Europe.
A few takeaways I shared:
Regulation vs. “Gold-Plating”: We must be cautious of ‘regulatory gold-plating’—where well-intentioned rules unintentionally slow down innovation and diminish the very customer value they are meant to protect. The goal should be better outcomes, not just more rules.
The Customer is the Compass: In the race to innovate, the most crucial success factor remains unchanged. Keeping the customer at the absolute center of every initiative isn’t just a mantra; it’s the only reliable key to long-term success.

HuHumans remained very much in The Loop at the #EuropeanDigitalFinanceConference in Amsterdam, where the Moody’s Analytics team engaged with EU FinCrimeCompliance Leaders.
Thank you Bart De Haan, Denis Kalyapin & Ivar Lammers for your trust and engagement. Building this panel between #Banks & #NBFIs has been a chance to look into some of the current challenges of our industry and share best practices.
Key take aways:
Lessons learned from an #APP crisis: Enriching your KYC to enhance Fraud prevention, activate your data and augment the mitigant power of your control framework by building a trusted partnership with your data office to foster a culture of #datainteroperability.
#EntityVerification: Build feedback loops throughout your processes from #pKYC to #networkinvestigations to identify current limitations and escalate new golden source requirements to your data hub/MDM. #AMLpackage focus on live and currated data triangulation, away from self declarative sources.
#KYCc* is the new KYC.

#FATFREC16: Following the second round of consultations, it is clear that a fine comb, auditable, explainable, risk based approach is required for #screening frameworks to deliver on G20 agenda (drop cost of payment), prevent derisking and debankarization, as well as enable activities such as remittance or bundled payments to be sustained. #AgenticAI evidences a strong ability to meet these objectives.
#Crypto& #DeFi: can no longer be kept out of FIs risk appetite; data/systems architecture must be open ended to consider tighter reg&supervision to come (eg. 2025 rush of FIs to stablecoins). #GeniusAct #MiCA
